New Delhi:-
Nitin Nabin, the newly appointed Executive President of the BJP, is only the second person in the party’s history to hold this position. The first was the current party chief, Jagat Prakash Nadda. Interestingly, the BJP constitution does not formally provide for the post of Executive President. However, since 2019, this role has been used as a stepping stone before formally taking over the responsibilities of the party president. In June 2019, after Amit Shah became the Union Home Minister, Nadda was appointed as the BJP Executive President. He served in this role for about six months, supporting Shah, and was then formally elected as the BJP National President in January 2020. Nadda has now been serving as the party chief for nearly six years. According to the BJP constitution, a leader can serve as party president for two terms of three years each.According to BJP leaders, the appointment of an Executive President is an interim arrangement. There is also another reason behind this timing. From tomorrow, a one month period known as Khar Maas, considered inauspicious by Hindus, is set to begin. For this reason, Nitin Nabin was appointed as Executive President yesterday. Once this period ends on January 14, the day of Makar Sankranti, the process of selecting a new party president may begin.
